“YDMD” is derived from the initial characters of the Chinese word. "You De Mei De." "You De" denotes "something," while "Mei De" denotes "nothing." When it all comes together, the word blurs the boundaries between something and nothing, and thus it could be anything.

YDMD Studio is a creative studio with locations in both Shanghai and London. Cultivating an ongoing exploration of materiality, technique, function and meaning, we investigate these notions through university education, curation and contemporary craft. Our practice focuses on experimental problem-solving intertwined with shaping new challenges. Our creative practice - always in dialogue with objects, is built on the admiration of all the whimsy and thoughtfulness that goes into creating them.
