About YDMD Studio

Founded in 2019 in Beijing, YDMD Studio is now based in both Shanghai and London. Our team members are graduates of the Royal College of Art and Goldsmiths, University of London. With interdisciplinary and cross-cultural backgrounds, we bring creativity and unexpected sparks to everything we do.

We explore the encounters between material, function, technology, and meaning, critically engaging with contemporary making. With dedication and curiosity, we craft work that is both thoughtful and playful — solving problems while creating new ones. Our passion lies in highly experimental artistic exploration, as well as uncovering the exciting possibilities where art intersects with industry and social systems.

YDMD Studio is active on both domestic and international stages. Our work has been recognized with multiple awards, including two Goldsmiths' Craft & Design Council Awards (UK), a shortlist for the Inches Carr Scottish Craft Awards, and the Theo Fennell Best Silversmithing Award at the Royal College of Art. Our collaborations, such as with designer Alexander Benekritis, have been finalists in the International Talent Support competition. We have exhibited widely at events such as London Design Festival, London Craft Week, London Jewellery Week, Munich Jewellery Week, GRASSI Fair Leipzig, Beijing Design Week, CIGE Beijing Art Fair, Beijing City Art Fair, and Triple Parade — the China Contemporary Craft Academic Nomination Exhibition.

In addition to our creative practice, YDMD has been invited to lecture and lead workshops at a range of universities and cultural institutions, including: Sheffield Institute of Arts, Cass School of Art London, Edinburgh College of Art, Goldsmiths’ Centre London, Talent Center of the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology, Nanjing University of the Arts, Hubei Institute of Fine Arts, Yunnan Arts University, China University of Geosciences, and Beijing University of Technology.
